Child First Baby Home

We are delighted to welcome another Baby Home to our projects! Child First Baby Home was officially opened at the end of 2024.

A bit of background: The Tanzanian NGO Child First Initiative (CFI) has made it its mission to support and empower children in and around Usa River, a suburb of Arusha.

When Cradle of Love Baby Home was unexpectedly closed in March 2024, many nannies and other staff members suddenly found themselves without work. But as the saying goes — every ending is also a new beginning. Nuruana, a former nanny from Cradle of Love, had already founded a non-profit organization together with friends. Her long-term goal was to continue helping the smallest and often most vulnerable children.

The concept behind Child First Baby Home is similar to that of Cradle of Love. Children from newborn age up to three years are cared for at the Baby Home until they are able to return to their families. The need for such institutions clearly still exists — since its opening in December 2024, seven children have already found a home there. Each child has their own story, some of them so tragic that we prefer not to share them publicly.

We are especially happy that Nuruana has taken on the role of director of the Baby Home and is also serving as our project coordinator on site — not only for the Baby Home itself but also for our existing sponsorship program with the children from Cradle of Love.

Here’s a small glimpse into the Baby Home:

For more information about CFI, we’re of course happy to answer any questions — or you can visit their website: cfi.or.tz

At the moment, the project is supported by one organization from Austria and one from Germany — that’s us.
There is also a German volunteer organization called Ines Volunteering, which arranges volunteers for the Baby Home.

For more details about volunteering, you can visit Ines’ website or simply contact us by email.
